Description
This convex shaped silver proof coin is dedicated to the "Orthodox Shrines". The prophet, John the Baptist, is after Mary the most revered saint. He was the son of the priest Zachariah and St. Elizabeth. His parents lived near Hebron, south of Jerusalem. By the grace of God, he escaped the death of thousands of dead babies in Bethlehem. St. John grew up in the wilderness, preparing himself for the great service of strict life, prayer, and fasting. He wore rough clothes, a leather belt, and ate locusts and wild honey. He stayed in the desert until the Lord called on him to preach to the age of thirsty Jewish people. Obeying this calling, the prophet John was on the banks of Jordan, to prepare the people to accept the expected Messiah (Jesus Christ). He baptized many, giving them religious absolution. After receiving the revelation of Jesus Christ, the prophet John told the people about him: "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world".
REVERSE
The reverse design depicts St. John the Baptist. The character is designed to match the original icon and offsets itself against the finely engraved silver proof background. A truly beautiful piece of art!
OBVERSE
The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
